Charity
BLFC is happy to have Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary as our charity since 2014.
Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit, wildlife rehabilitation center located in Imlay, Nevada, providing rehabilitative services and permanent placement for animals in need. They also respond to assistance requests from state and federal agencies, law enforcement, veterinarians, and concerned citizens.
Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary relies completely on the generosity of public donations and support. They do not receive assistance from any state or federal agencies. On average, care of just one animal at Safe Haven costs upwards of $10,000 a month.
The BLFC Charity Auction raises funds for Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary and is powered entirely by donations from BLFC Staff, Dealers, Artists, and YOU, BLFC Attendees!
This year, BLFC is offering two Charity Live Auctions, and two Silent Auctions!
One of each will display items and artwork appropriate for all ages, and the second will feature items of an adult nature.
Please use the form below to register each item you intend to donate to raise funds for the big cats and other wild animals cared for at the Sanctuary. Bring your donations to BLFC and they will be collected by our enthusiastic Charity Department Staff.
If you’d like to donate money directly, you can do so at our Givebutter page.
BLFC’s donations to Save Haven have made these possible
- Food for 45 rescued animals
- That’s a lot of maws to feed! Some animals include African lions, tigers, cougars, snow leopard, cheetahs, bobcats, African servals, caracals, coyotes, foxes, black bears. Some of these fluffers eat quite a bit of noms!
- Veterinary Care and Medical Expenses
- Funding the veterinary care program which includes regular exams, bloodwork, radiographs, dental care and any abnormalities.
- This year several big cats had to get root canals on their poor fangies. This required funds for a veterinary dental specialist to perform these surgeries to help these cats be able to nibble comfortably.
- Housing support for the six-month wildlife interns
- This provides them the animal care experience that will help them find employment in their field, including biology, animal science and veterinary careers.
- Specialty Care
- Support for unanticipated veterinary emergencies resulting in UC-Davis specialized care visits which average $6,000 to $8,000 per visit.
- Safe Haven is in a remote area of Nevada and sometimes they need to bring animals to specialists to make sure they are always healthy and taken care of. Have you ever tried to transport a Lion?!
- Purchase of material to construct new habitats.
- Building and maintaining the habitats is a lot of work. It takes a lot to make sure there’s enough space for all the animals to live happily and in comfort. They aren’t kept in small enclosures like at that zoo!
- The in-progress rescue of two new African lions currently considered “Witness Protection Cats” with limited public information while the case is still in court. (Please see link for the press/story of their rescue.)
